PAULUS Multiple Sclerosis Assistance
Multiple sclerosis (MS) involves an abnormal response of the immune system that is directed against the central nervous system (CNS). The exact reason why immune cells are sensitized to attack is unknown. If you or a family member is recently diagnosed with MS, please know that you are not alone; more than 2.3 million people are affected by MS worldwide.
Within the CNS, the immune system attacks myelin. Myelin is analogous to the outer covering of an electrical chord. When this plastic sheeting is damaged on the extension chord, the electricity is distorted or interrupted causing a flickering light. When myelin is damaged, nerve impulses to and from the brain and spinal chord are distorted in the same way, producing the symptoms of MS. There are four different disease courses. Each of these courses can be characterized as mild, moderate or severe. In all types of MS and all severities, it is important that the person has a strong and reliable care team available at all times. Whether you have relapsing-remitting MS, secondary-progressive MS, primary-progressive MS or progressive-relapsing MS, it is important to eat healthy foods, avoid overexertion, and to stay current on your medications. With a PAULUS CAREPARTNER, it is much easier to remain healthy and free from attacks. Your CAREPARTNER has studied your specific type of MS and is therefore able to deliver meaningful living assistance. We have a select group of CAREPARTNERS that specialize in supporting our clients with MS. At fC, every MS certified CAREPARTNER is also a certified nursing assistant (CNA). We feel that it is vitally important that our care professionals understand as much about MS as possible in order to appropriately and confidently support your loved one. PAULUS CAREPARTNERS must pass an MS exam in order to be considered for a FamilyMATCH with your loved one. If you need Multiple Sclerosis specific services, have questions, or would like someone to talk to, please don't hesitate to call Paul, the founding director of PAULUS. |
